This unique world premiere reunites Damon Albarn with some of the musicians from his trip to Mali around the millennium celebrations. Originated by On the Line, Oxfam’s education project, Albarn met and recorded with musicians including kora master Toumani Diabate, blues singer and guitarist, Lobi Traore, kamele ngoni player Ko Kan Ko Sata Doumbia and griot Kasse Mady Diabate.
The ensuing album, Mali Music, will be issued on April 15, the first release on Honest Jon’s and this concert is the launch of that label.
Damon will be joined by over a dozen Malian musicians, including the haunting voice and guitar of Afel Bocoum.
